2024 Flu Vaccination – Available Options

Influvac Tetra – for 6 months and over

This is funded for:

  • All people 65 years of age and over
  • All Māori & Pacific people aged 55-64 years
  • All Māori and Pacific Tamariki aged 12 years and under
  • People under the age of 65 with
    • Ischaemic heart disease
    • Congestive heart failure 
    • Rheumatic heart disease
    • Congenital heart disease
    • Cerebrovascular disease
    • Asthma, if on regular preventative therapy
    • Chronic respiratory disease with impaired lung function
    • Diabetes
    • Chronic renal disease 
    • Have any cancer excluding basal and squamous skin cancers if not invasive
    • Autoimmune disease
    • Immune suppression or immune deficiency
    • HIV
    • Transplant recipient
    • Neuromuscular and CNS diseases/disorder
    • Haemoglobinopathies
    • Children on long term aspirin
    • A cochlear implant
    • Errors of metabolism risk of major metabolic decompensation
    • Pre and post splenectomy
    • Down syndrome 
  • Women who are currently pregnant
  • Children 4 years of age and under who have been hospitalised for respiratory illness or have a history of significant respiratory illness 
  • People under 65 years of age who have any of the following serious mental health conditions:
    • Schizophrenia
    • Major depressive disorder
    • Bipolar disorder
    • Schizoaffective disorder


A charge of $39.00 applies for Influvac Tetra, if you are not eligible for funding.

Flucelvax Quad – for 6 months and over

Cell-Based Influenza Vaccine

Flucelvax Quad is designed to be an exact match to the flu strains that are circulating this year and is available in New Zealand for the first time, for people aged 6 months and over.

A charge of $52.00 will apply for Flucelvax Quad.

Fluad Quad – for 65 years and over

Optimised for people 65+ years

Fluad Quad is the only flu vaccine containing MF59 Adjuvant, designed to help your body create more antibodies to help fight influenza. In people aged 65 year and over, immunisation with FLUAD Quad offers:

  • Less chance of contracting flu compared with standard flu vaccine
  • Lower risk of needing to see a doctor, visit an emergency department or be hospitalised with flu related complication compared with the standard flu vaccine.
  • Longer protection. Antibody levels are higher at 12 months postvaccination, compared with the standard flu vaccine.


A charge of $52.00 will apply for Fluad Quad.
